Does Luffy Ever Meet Zenny Again?

136-138: "Zenny of the Island of Goats and the Pirate Ship in the Mountains!", "How's That for Profit? The Designs of Zenny the Moneylender!", and "Whereabouts of the Isle Treasure! Attack of the Zenny Pirates!"

Since it's Friday, I had a bit of extra time to spare, so I watched all three episodes of the Goat Island mini-arc. As I have a weakness for plots involving taking care of the elderly (pretty rare in the shounen genre: I cannot think of whatever off the elevation of my head), I actually enjoyed this arc and institute myself caring for the character of Zenny. I know. He is a filler character. What is the world coming to?

The filler marine characters weren't quite so well-developed or likeable. The chief 'villain' was a Sergeant chosen Minchi. I knew non to trust him equally the anime team had designed him with narrow, play a joke on-like eyes and sharp features, which manifestly are traits of untrustworthiness (which Gin from Bleach and Hisoka from HxH share). There was also a fat head honcho (Captain Moore) and a doormat subordinate (let'south call him Corporal Chump. I didn't catch his name).

The goats, of form, need no introduction. xD They were ridiculously beautiful and every fourth dimension they uttered a cheep I imagined the entire team at Toei crowded round a unmarried mike, making caprine animal noises. Best. Job. Ever.

Even though it was drawn out over three episodes, the plot was pretty elementary. The Strawhats, existence chased by Sergeant Minchi, escaped his clutches and arrived at an uncharted island. When they disembarked and started exploring, they were promptly attacked by a bunch of ambrosial goats. Chopper, wondering what their adorable caprine animal deal was, acted as interpreter. Turns out they were ordered to set on past a crusty onetime dude. Upon being found out, said crusty erstwhile dude barbarous out a tree and, upon being confronted, had some sort of palpitation or fainting fit.

The Strawhats dragged him back to his house and Chopper worked his magic. The onetime dude woke upward and was annoyed that he'd miss out on the essential maintenance tasks like cooking and chopping firewood and, you know, surviving. Luffy, being honourable, agreed to help the one-time guy.

While they got to work, Zoro went out for food, got horribly lost, and establish a pirate ship on top of the isle'southward mountain. WTF, thought Zoro, as would anyone in that situation. When he got back, Zoro told everyone almost the ship and they prepare out to await for it. They idea it was pretty weird, simply none of them could make sense of why a random pirate send was stuck on a mountain like that (it kind of reminded me of the folk who acquit pianos up munros in Scotland). xD

The old dude made them work difficult, though. The adjacent day, they were fed up and thinking most bailing. But the old dude had another set on of the heart evils. Chopper said he only had three days to live. This brought on an unexpected bout of feels. ;_;

Most of the plot from then on was dedicated to the Strawhats going out of their way to ensure this one-time homo, who they hardly knew, had every bit wonderful a fourth dimension equally his remaining days allowed. Chess, cheese and massages featured prominently. This brought on another bout of strong feels. ;_;

Every bit Nami was convinced the old dude was a pirate, she was also convinced he had treasure hidden abroad somewhere. When the sometime dude became friendly with them, he let sideslip that his name was Zenny and that he wasn't a pirate, just a money lender to pirates. He had washed up on the island after some problem with a pirate who did non want to repay the loan. The send he had built on the mountain was originally designed to assistance him escape the island. But information technology took him so long that he had aged and he gave upward the dream of heading out to see. Instead, he said, the transport would be his coffin. More feels. ;_;

But before the Goat Island arc descended into morbid bouts of pondering upon the nature of mortality, Luffy piped up and came to the rescue.

"Y'all're never too onetime," he said. "Yous tin become a pirate whenever yous want."

This paid dividends when Sergeant Minchi and Corporal Doormat appeared and attempted to fob the Strawhats into giving themselves and Zenny upwards to grab the treasure. When Usopp was captured, Zenny sprang to life. With the assistance of his adorable goats, he sailed downward the mountain. (Seriously, though, what is with the fillers and having large, ridiculous objects sliding down implausible slopes? First Ryuuichi the dragon and now an entire transport?)

To cutting a long story short, riding on the high of his new lease of life, Zenny worked together with the Strawhats to defeat Sergeant Minchi. To top it all off, Corporal Doormat stopped being a doormat and shopped Minchi to his boss. The bad guy was exposed and the Strawhats slipped through the mist, leaving Helm Moore'south squadron behind in tatters. Task washed and happy ending attained!

What I loved was that, even at the cease, Robin and Chopper were still worrying virtually his health. Should Zenny actually head out to sea, with his declining health? But Zoro and Luffy were optimistic. Sailing the Grand Line equally a pirate is Zenny'south dream. Like hell he should give up!

You really are never as well old to learn. One of my jobs right now is a piano teacher, and I have taught a couple of splendid older people, who take always wanted to play but who accept never had the ways, or take put their families first. They are usually underconfident and apologetic when they make mistakes, but it'south super rewarding to come across them grow in confidence and discover that, actually, they can do what younger people practice and that information technology'south never to late to learn something new. Luffy knows that. Everyone should know that. :)

I firmly believe now that Zoro would struggle to discover something if information technology was sitting on his face.
